Traditional Burial

In most areas of the country it is not required by law to purchase an outer burial receptacle for the interment of a loved one.  However, most cemeteries have a minimum structural requirement for ground burial that is met by a concrete graveliner.

For families interested in more than a minimum requirement however, funeral directors nationwide offer them the line of Wilbert brand burial vaults.  The Wilbert burial vault is manufactured to a high level of specifications geared toward providing families with lasting peace of mind.  To understand some important differences among your choices, look at these definitions established by the National Concrete Burial Vault Association (NCBVA):

                Definition of a Concrete Graveliner

A burial receptacle placed in the ground in a cemetery, either sectional, dome or box form     designed and built to support the weight of the earth and standard cemetery maintenance equipment and to prevent the grave from collapsing.

Definition of a Concrete Burial Vault

A lined and sealed burial receptacle which performs all the functions for the concrete graveliner, and in addition is designed and constructed using one or more lining and sealing materials to increase the overall tensile strength of the finished unit and to reduce the risk of intrusion of exterior elements.

It becomes obvious that a “graveliner” must be able to perform to minimum specifications, while the “burial vault” will far exceed minimum loading and stress conditions that would be acceptable for the minimum unit.

There are many benefits to families being offered Wilbert burial vaults by their funeral home that they would not receive with another brand product.  One is Wilbert’s patented Unidex bonding system, a two-part epoxy that affixes the reinforcing plastic liner to the concrete.  This seamless structural reinforcement allows the vault to withstand loads of stress that can exceed 25,000 pounds and still protect the casket.  Another benefit is the assurance that a Wilbert vault will resist the introduction of groundwater and other undesirable elements.  This is provided by a process using Wilbert’s patented Superseal, an industrial strength sealing tape.  A sealing process called the Wilbert Way can take place above ground level depending on the cemetery.  With this sealing and installation method, the base of the vault and the cover of the vault are brought together in plain view at the end of the graveside service.  Then the entire burial vault is solemnly lowered into its final resting place.  The Wilbert Way adds a special touch to the meaningful closure of a funeral.

Either with or without a Wilbert Way vault installation, families who select Wilbert brand burial vaults know they have selected the very best the funeral industry has to offer.  Wilbert, by virtue of always being at the leading edge of quality and innovation, has long been regarded as ‘The Foremost Name in Burial Vaults’.
